Happiness is...

Sun Oct 18, 2009, 2:12 PM
having fun at a toga party.
playing football and not making a fool of myself (and having our team win the game!)
making new friends.
chatting with old ones.
apple (or any fruit-flavored) rice.
having people remember you for things like appreciating their artwork.

I might not know where I'm going or what I'm doing, but in the long run I don't think it really matters, eh?

Until next time :D

Chicken or egg?

I need to figure out how to break out of my shell. I thought coming to a new city, a place where absolutely no one knew me, I'd be able to just snap out of whatever psychological funk keeps me from meeting new people. I made a few friends on my own, introducing myself and (eventually) remembering names and whatnot. But for some reason that seems to be about the sum total of my social skills. I've been to three parties now and I've pretty much just hung around the people I know. Got introduced to a pretty 3rd year at the second party. I saw her last night at the Ceilidh and I think I spoke all of six words to her, and that was only because I went to talk to my 4th-year mentor who "just happened" to be talking to her.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with not hanging out with someone every night of the week. But when I don't hang out with anyone on any night of the week, it gets a little boring.

I don't know, maybe it's fear of rejection. Maybe it's a remembrance of the past and the friends I used to have, their friendship being in the past tense because I was an ass or uninteresting or just plain worried that I would annoy them if I asked to hang out every once in a while and they forgot about me.

Maybe.

It's funny, 'cause I think this same thing would have happened had I stayed where I was. Only difference would be that I'd be around people I already knew, staying in the same social circles and doing the same thing week after week, not branching out at all.

So if anything, this is my opportunity to change things up. I just have to figure out how...

Until next time.

2 pounds of potatoes... or something like that

Wed Sep 9, 2009, 11:07 AM
For once a measure taken to be well-prepared has actually sort of screwed me over. The suitcases I got for going over to Scotland are gigantic, easily the largest suitcase I have ever seen anyone actually own. My mom got me extra-large space bags - the ones that you vacuum out all the air and "it's amazing." So I'm thinking great, I've got a ton of space and a space-saving device, I'll be able to take over everything I want!

wrong.

Thankfully I checked out the airline's baggage policy. First two bags are free. Okay, so I can't bring my guitar, no biggie. Weight limit? 50lb. I go to weigh one suitcase, which has two space-bags worth of fabric and is still only 3/4 full -- 65lb. Great.

So I've been spending the last 24 hours trying to figure out how to fit one pound of potatoes into a 2 pound bag w/o everything (read: my computer monitor) getting trashed. Yes, I'm taking my computer to Scotland. I want to do it, so there.

I unpacked the space bag that had my t-shirts, thinking they'd give me the volume I needed to safely surround my monitor. That and two boxes is just about 50lb - and there's still room to spare. I'm seriously debating putting bubble wrap in just for kicks.

As for the other bag, I'm screwing the 50lb limit, coughing up the $50 fee, and putting an extra 20lb in it. Still have a little space in that bag too, but at least it's got everything else that I need.

I suppose all that's left is to figure out how to cram all the rest of the remaining crap into my duffel bag w/o crushing anything important. This could be interesting...

Until Scotland.

One free jewelry item to the one who screen-caps page view 3333. Barring today's... rather sudden spike being a regular occurrence, should be 'round in a week or so.

Winner's choice can be something already made or (to the best of my ability) a custom offer.

In other news, I remain jobless, as no one in K'zoo seems to like my qualifications.

Until next time.

More time than it's worth

I don't know if DA is just being weird, or I've just been forgetting to actually delete devs. I logged in today to find 121 submissions, 100 of them being devs that I had already seen/deleted. Odd.

In other news, as soon as I get around to editing the pics of my latest creations (not for lack of time, certainly, more a lack of interest as I play through Lode Runner again) I will upload them here. Friday, maybe?

And, finally, while I don't have to pass my Environmental Physiology exam on Thursday, I have this nagging feeling like I should study anyways and kick the snot out of it.

Until next time.
