Roronoa Zoro's (from One Piece) swords, made for Anime North '09. While I don't have any photos of me as Zoro, I figured I'd upload the swords ('cause they're a lot better looking than I).

Sandai Kitetsu, Yubashiri, and Wado Ichimonji from top down.

Unfortunately time constraints prevented me from actually making the swords (were purchased), but all paint, wrapping, and guards were done by me.

Bad 3QT, no cookie! Your swords are upside down! You should always mount Japanese swords with the blade facing up, otherwise they bite down into the sheath, damaging both the blade and sheath and making them very hard to pull out.

Otherwise, beautiful work! How long did it take you to do the wrapping and the guards?

hmm... I'll have to remember that if and when I ever get a real katana (these be wooden). I always did wonder why they were displayed curve-up.

The wrapping only took about ten minutes (though I went to four craft stores before finding the white binding).

(stupid DA) ...

The guards were a pain. Cutting 'em down took an hour or so (hardest dang wood I've ever encountered...). They had these stupid pre-cut holes in them, so after cutting I had to fill them in with putty, wait 5 hrs for them to dry, find out that the basement was too cold (and the putty hadn't hardened), clean them off and re-putty them.
